Lickety Split and the Second Release

Although Lickety Split only had one release in the UK (in 1985), in European countries like Sweden, Norway and the Netherlands she returned in 1986 for an encore performance. The reason why some ponies were swapped out between the UK and European sets is unknown, although I personally put it down to the wider chaos of 1986. This version of Lickety Split was sold in Hong Kong, but versions made in Italy and Spain were also common in other countries like Germany, France and Spain. This page is focusing on the HK version.

Lickety Split's pale pink hair can fade in the sun. It is not uncommon to find her second hand with white hair, but this is damage and not a variation.

Although a lot of collectors are aware of European versions of certain favourite characters like Lickety Split being made in other locations, for some reason there is less attention given to the Hong Kong "mainstream" produced second editions of Cherries Jubilee (who actually has three HK versions) and Lickety-Split. Although the magenta-symbol Posey is better known, she's usually associated to the wrong set, again perhaps because of the gap in knowledge about these other HK second editions and their distribution.

This version of Lickety Split is paler than the first release, and has much darker cones on her ice cream symbols. This is probably because she was in production at the same time as the So Soft version in North America - it would have been easier for Hasbro to make all versions with the same colour dye in the plastic. She is referred to by various different monikers - "Second Edition Lickety-Split" and "Euro Lickety Split" are the most common. Ironically, given that her body tone is so similar to the So Soft, she is not generally referred to as "NSS" (Non So Soft) Lickety Split. (Small mercies.)

At time of writing, I don't have access to a MOC image of HK Lickety Split (but if you have one I can use, I'd love to hear from you!) and so I am not sure what her accessories were.

Lickety Split's Character

I am not sure if Lickety-Split's persona in Europe was any different from in the UK. Over here she was, rather predictably given her symbol, obsessed with ice cream. Her fondness for sweet treats led, on at least one occasion in the comic, to Majesty playing rather a mean trick on her in order to get her to lose weight. She was sent on a long gallop around Ponyland, with the hope that the exercise of carrying a message to different people would help her to fit through a snug passage through a hedge.
