Heart Throb in North America

Heart Throb was one of the new characters introduced into the North American unicorn and pegasus line in 1985. She also debuted one of the new poses for the year, along with her set-mate, Surprise.

Heart Throb in the United Kingdom

Heart Throb was not sold in the United Kingdom, although she featured heavily in early pony comics and merchandise over here, such as in this birthday card.

Heart Throb in Other Places

Heart Throb was available in many different countries, often manufactured in Italy, Spain, France or other locations. A Hong Kong version was sold in Scandinavia, Finland and South Africa in 1986, as part of the Fable set. It is not entirely confirmed whether there are major variations between the version sold in the US and this 'Fable' version - but her accessories in this release were likely the same as in the Year 3 North American set.

Italian versions of Heart Throb were also sold in some European countries, such as Germany. This version of Heart Throb had darker pink hair, and the wings on the hearts were metallic, rather than glittery. This version was probably sold on the same style of card as the 'Fable' pony release, under the name "Fabelponys".


Heart Throb's Character

Although Heart Throb is known for an over-the-top animated persona, this character really associates to the So Soft version, rather than the original. Heart Throb was logically associated with valentine's day, as well as giving gifts and delivering happy and loving messages - such as this on the back of the above pictured birthday card in 1986.

Her US backcard story mentions her making gifts for people, indicating a pony with a generous heart. The Fact File connects her directly to Valentine's Day, making it a holiday she celebrated particularly. Her annoying animated turn of speech and insistence on using 'Darling' after every other sentence has no place in the UK lore :)
