Powder in North America

Powder was one of the new characters introduced into the North American unicorn and pegasus line in 1985. She also debuted one of the new poses for the year, along with her set-mate, Skyflier.

Powder in the United Kingdom

Powder was not sold in the United Kingdom, although she featured heavily in early pony comics and merchandise over here. Logically, this prominently happened around winter, when snow was in the air (in the eighties it did snow more than it does now!). This meant that she was a frequent figure in Christmas related merchandise, such as cards (see below).

Powder in Other Places

Powder was available in many different countries, often manufactured in Italy, Spain, France or other locations. A Hong Kong version was sold in Scandinavia, Finland and Australia in 1986, as part of the Fable set. It is not entirely confirmed whether there are major variations between the version sold in the US and this 'Fable' version - but her accessories in this release were the same as in the Year 3 North American set. The MOC below (and some online discussion) has suggested that "Fable" Powder may indeed be a paler shade of purple, but without having a physical pony to compare, I am leaving her on this page for now.

Italian versions of Powder were also sold in some European countries, such as Germany. This version of Powder had blue eyes, and metallic, rather than glittery, snowflakes. This version was probably sold on the same style of card as the 'Fable' pony release, under the name "Fabelponys".


Powder's Character

Powder was a mischievous unicorn who liked to use her unicorn magic to create snow sculptures to confuse her friends. She would create snow duplicates and then giggle as she fooled people with them. She also appeared in the comics often around winter, during the eighties.

She had a cameo role in Escape from Catrina, and wore the outfit My Valentine in the fashion parade at the end. Powder's playful kiss towards Spike does demonstrate her mischievous character.
