Bon-Bon (Seven Characters)

Bon-Bon was one of the Seven Character ponies first released in the UK and in Europe in 1993. She would go on to be reissued in 1994. She was part of a 'core cast' that featured in the My Little Pony Tales animated series in 1992. Although produced and aired in America, the ponies were not sold in North America at all - only in Europe. For this reason the set is also informally known as My Little Pony Tales ponies (or Tales Ponies). They are also sometimes called "Seven Tales" ponies, but this is incorrect.

Although the way that the pony name and rainbow was organised on the card differed depending on the card's language, the packaging art was the same in all countries, in garish pink with a new art style. The story for the ponies was universal between all seven. She was sold with a pink wrapped sweet comb which was designed for her release, as well as a ribbon. In 1994, she was sold with a sheet of stickers instead - the card advertising that they were to 'decorate' the pony with.

Bon-Bon's Character

Bon-Bon was one of several siblings, meaning that her house was often busy and crazy, and sometimes she felt left out. She was outwardly gregarious, but had inner insecurities - one of which was her secret dream to be a model, which she agonises about revealing because she is afraid to be mocked. Bon-Bon was an excellent cook, and loved to share her food with her friends. She also kept a diary, in which she recorded all kinds of things, including secrets. In one animated episode, her diary was stolen and used to blackmail her.

In the pony comic, each issue included a two-page spread called "Bon-Bon's Diary" in which she recounted her week, usually summarising back her opinion on things that happened in other stories in the comic (making it feel like the issues were a week by week guide into the ponies' lives.)
