Bright Eyes (Seven Characters)

Bright Eyes was one of the Seven Character ponies first released in the UK and in Europe in 1993. She would go on to be reissued in 1994. She was part of a 'core cast' that featured in the My Little Pony Tales animated series in 1992. Although produced and aired in America, the ponies were not sold in North America at all - only in Europe. For this reason the set is also informally known as My Little Pony Tales ponies (or Tales Ponies). They are also sometimes called "Seven Tales" ponies, but this is incorrect.

Although Bright Eyes was a repeated name for Hasbro, the previous Bright Eyes never made it to the UK. They have no connection whatsoever.

Although the way that the pony name and rainbow was organised on the card differed depending on the card's language, the packaging art was the same in all countries, in garish pink with a new art style. The story for the ponies was universal between all seven. She was sold with a pink notebook comb which was designed for her release, as well as a purple ribbon. In 1994, she was sold with a sheet of stickers instead - the card advertising that they were to 'decorate' the pony with.

Bright Eyes's Character

Bright Eyes was an intelligent character with a forceful personality in the animation. She knew what she believed and she would happily campaign for it. She supported environmental concerns, and even travelled to the Tropical Isle, where she met the Sunbright family and learned about another pony culture. She also visited them in the comic, along with Melody and Melody's siblings.

In both the comic and the animation, she was pursued by her classmate Lancer (never produced), who was shy, awkward, but well-meaning. In the animation, they had one episode where they ended up on a sort-of date, and there was a lot of fuss about 'matching' them up. In the comic, Lancer was usually doing the pursuing, with Bright Eyes generally oblivious.

In one story, Bright Eyes invited Lancer to a school dance thinking he had forgotten about it as well, when in fact he had wanted to ask her but had been too shy. On another occasion, he was preparing to ask her out but she was more interested in watching how some fireflies glowed...
