Brightglow

Brightglow was one of two orange earth ponies in the Glowing Magic (known in the US as Glow & Show) release. She was sold with a yellow-green moon and stars comb/green ribbon in Europe and the UK and a yellow-green butterfly brush in North America.

She was available in North America in 1991 and the UK and Europe in 1992.

Coral/purple straight mane and tail
As with other members of the set, there are known variations in Brightglow's release, mostly with respect to the hair. The version most commonly found in North America has normally silky dark pink and purple mane and tail (the one pictured is one of my sister's rescued ponies and her hair is in poor condition, but the texture is normally a lot smoother). This version is also found in Europe and the UK and so is not an exclusive. The other version, which is more commonly found in the UK and Europe than North America has lavender and dark pink mane and tail. The odd element of this is that the lavender hair is normally curly, whilst the dark pink is normally straight. The Brightglow pictured at the top of the page is my childhood pony and her hair has been like that since new (it was so hard to style her as a kid!).

There is a third, more difficult to find version (which I don't own, so no picture, sorry). Like the variation of Starglow, she has coral instead of dark pink hair, and she is usually found in the European/UK release (although the dark pink/purple hair combinations are more common).

All these versions are made in China.

Brightglow's Character

Although I had Brightglow from new as a child, I no longer have her backcard, and do not remember clearly her backcard story. I have a feeling it had something to do with birds, however, and this would seem to be supported by her first appearance in the pony comic, where she stopped behind her friends to help a little bird protect themselves from the cold weather, and then to help the sandman build a star stairway back to the moon. This depiction certainly suggests she was a gentle pony with a kind heart - maybe a peace dove?

Let's not ask what a hair blanket is. Hopefully not the same as a hair shirt...
