Happyglow

Happyglow was one of two orange ponies in the Glowing Magic (known in the US as Glow & Show) release. She was sold with a yellow moon and stars comb/yellow ribbon in Europe and the UK and a yellow butterfly brush in North America.

She was available in North America in 1991 and the UK and Europe in 1992.

As with other members of the set, there are known variations in Happyglow's release, mostly with respect to the hair. Hair texture variations are common with this set, but there are also noted colour variations. In Happyglow's case, the pony can have either blue or aqua in her hair, alongside the white (as shown above). Based on my two ponies, there may also be a distinction in plastic opacity, though that may also relate to batch.

Comparing Happyglow Versions

The pony pictured at the top of the page is my sister's childhood Happyglow, bought new here in the UK, with blue and white hair. It is not clear whether one version is more common in one location than the other - but neither appear to be 'exclusive' to one region.

All these versions are made in China.

Happyglow's Character

According to Happyglow's backcard, and her name, she was a cheerful pony fond of happy tunes and with a sense of fun. Her story also depicts her getting her glow from the Star Lighter, after he used the magic words 'Glowing Magic'.
Happyglow was the first Glowing Magic pony to be introduced in the pony comic, when and her friends arrived in Ponyland.
