Adult Sea Ponies were a thing of the past, but Baby Sea Ponies
were still a thriving commodity in 1987. The third set of Baby Sea
Ponies was released in this year. Oddly, they were called Sea
Sparkle Baby Sea Ponies, although there was absolutely nothing
sparkly about them at all. They are probably the hardest to find
set of Baby Sea Ponies second-hand, and are also some of the most
distinctive - each baby had a stripe of colour in her hair and a
painted necklace around her throat.
Seaspray Mint on Card
A new float style, the lobster, was also introduced with this set;
it was sold with three out of the six babies. The set used two of
the existing three baby sea pony poses - the 'looking up' and
'head turned' styles.
The Sea Sparkle Baby Sea Ponies were not sold in the UK. They may
have been sold in Europe on import, but this is unclear - of all
the Baby Sea Ponies they are the ones with the least footprint
outside of North America, which may help to explain why they are
generally harder to find.
