The Second Grooming Parlour in the UK

Most people are aware that the UK had two versions of the 'Grooming Parlour', with Kiss Curl's take on the Brush-Me-Beautiful-Boutique a well established fact. Less known is the existence of a third parlour - a weird bridge between Peachy's release and the new design.

In 1987, however, the Grooming Parlour was sold in the UK with Snuzzle, instead of Peachy. The box was amended from the original to include Snuzzle instead.

The UK Grooming Parlour Box featuring Snuzzle

Most of the accessories, including Twinkles the Cat, were the same as sold with Peachy's Parlour. It would be easy to assume that Hasbro had just put together leftover parlours and leftover Snuzzles from the North American Mail Order and bundled them up to create a 'new' set. And honestly, that is almost certainly what they did.

One glaring difference, however, was the choice of name tags released with this set compared to earlier ones. I mentioned on Peachy's page that the US release had nametags for the very earliest ponies, whilst Peachy's featured names from 1984 and 1985. Snuzzle's parlour reflected the year as well, with pony nametags more representative of those on sale in 1987. These tags are very hard to find second hand, due to their size and the delicacy of the cardboard.

They were two-sided, so there were names on the flipside of what is shown below. Other names included (not shown) include Speedy, Rosedust, Shady, Morning Glory, Lickety Split, Tiddly-Winks and Gusty. All these ponies with the exception of Lickety Split were on store shelves in the UK during 1987. The inclusion of Baby Cuddles and Baby Tiddly Winks without the prefix 'baby', however, suggests this tag was probably for Baby Lickety Split, who had been on sale during 1986 and who was a prominent character in My Little Pony the Movie, which was particularly promoted in the UK in 1987.

The inclusion of "Storm", an early production name for Thundercloud that features in Hasbro's 1987 promotional booklet, suggests that this parlour was put together very early in the 1987 production. Mountain Boy Ponies probably came out around autumn 1987. By this point, Thundercloud's name had been changed. This means we can hypothesise Snuzzle's Parlour being released in the first half of 1987.

Snuzzle's parlour also included a round puffy sticker, featuring her.

Snuzzle in the United Kingdom

Despite the fact Snuzzle was the last Collector Pony standing in the UK - she is the only one to still be on sale in 1987 - she is largely anonymous in pony comics and stories. She appeared in the Fact File with a suitably generic story, but she was not particularly notable and did not appear in the comics despite her extensive release history.
