Twinkle Eye Ponies in North America and Italy, 1987

The final full set of Twinkle Eye Ponies were released in 1987. This set was released at the same time as the second set in the UK, but the characters did not entirely overlap. Three of the characters in this North American set were sold in the UK - Speedy, Locket and Tic Tac Toe. The other three never saw a UK release, although their appearance on the Italian insert for 1987 suggests the set was probably sold in Italy - almost certainly on uniquely Italian design cards. This is supported by a flier from 1987 which also advertises these ponies.

 It is also possible that they were sold in the Benelux countries on American card with Dutch/French stickers, but this is unconfirmed.

The front of the 1987 card in North America was the same as in earlier sets, featuring ponies not included in this release, Masquerade, Galaxy and Whizzer. The back of the card, however, featured the correct ponies from the 1987 set, including five new characters and the re-released Speedy.

While all the Twinkle Eye ponies in the UK and Europe came with shooting star combs, this set broke those rules. Instead, two ponies came with a shooting star brush, two with sun picks and two with shooting star combs. The accessories in the North American set broke down as follows:

Shooting Star brush: Mimic, Tic Tac Toe
Shooting star comb: Bright Eyes, Speedy
Sun pick: Locket, Quackers

 This means there are accessory variations between releases of Tic Tac Toe and Locket between the North American and UK/European releases.


Ponies in this set:
