The 1991 UK Activity Pony Club

Unfortunately I stopped being a member of the Pony Club in the UK after 1989, so I don't have much of the paperwork or club newsletters beyond that point. If anyone has these and is willing to send scans of key pages or information about what came with each set to put up on the site, then I would be very grateful.

In the meantime, there was a club newborn, and her name was Baby Fun & Games. She was in bolder colours than the earlier club babies, with bright red (straight) hair and symbols. She was advertised in the pony comic throughout late 1990 and early 1991 through the following advertisment, which also featured several characters from 1991's pony release.

Although the theme of the baby was fun and games, the advert suggests that she was in keeping with the year's theme of school, as the first pack was intended to help her 'settle in at school'. The club offer was open to new members until the end of July, 1991.

This was the last official full year of the pony club, and Hasbro promoted it in the last 1990 club newsletter with an incentive - send off for the club early and be entered into a draw for Sweetstep Ballerina Ponies (not available otherwise in the UK). Whether this was excess stock or a sign that the club was already dwindling in support is unclear.

Baby Fun & Games was also promoted through a leaflet that was slipped into pony packages.

The last newsletter for the 1991 pony club included an offer for the earlier mail order pony Baby Ribbons & Hearts, which is one of the reasons she has also been associated with the club. In context, however, pony offers were not uncommon in club leaflets, and it is hard to know whether this is a suggestion that Ribbons & Hearts would have ever been released through the club.
