Starflash, Mint in Box (UK, 1991)
Colour Palette - blue
The names of the four ponies did not match
their symbols - Starflash had hearts. Moonshimmer, suns.
Bright Night, bows, and Sunblossom, silver stars. This has
always been a point of amusement for collectors, although we
can maybe look at this in a broader context, remembering the
name mix-ups in the Starlight Baby release from the same year.
Perhaps some odd things just went on in Hasbro HQ this year.
One name difference exists between the North American and UK
lines. Moonshimmer had a recycled name, Twinkler, in the
American release.
Some German sold examples of Moonshimmer have wildly curly
hair and a lighter shade of tinsel. This seems to be the same
kind of hair that is also found on some continental releases
of Baby Mischief, suggesting production from the same
facility.
It is not clear whether these ponies were sold across all of
Europe. They appear on the UK, Spanish and German inserts
for 1991, but they do not appear on the equivalent leaflet
for the Benelux, suggesting they may not have seen release
here. At present, I have no evidence whether they were
sold in France or other regions of Europe, especially those in
which English-boxed ponies were not uncommon.
