The Dance & Prance Pony set
comprised four earth ponies and two unicorns. Although in
the original commercial and American prototype materials,
Songster and Player were shown as pegasus ponies, they were
sold as earth ponies in the same basic pose as the unicorns.

This is probably because it makes for a better dance effect,
but I remember being quite sad that Songster wasn't a
pegasus. She and Player were always written and drawn as
pegasus ponies in the comics, despite the fact Hasbro's UK
catalogue image shows them correctly. This suggests they had
much earlier production material to work from.
The Dance & Prance ponies also formed the central role
in at least one Italian advertisment for 1990.

Each Dance & Prance pony had a wind-up mechanism,
powered by a flower brooch on their chest. You could wind
them up, set them down and they would 'judder-spin' in a
circle while their tails spun round and round.

It is not a good idea to do this near any other pony,
especially a
Brush & Grow pony, as
tangling is highly likely.
Each pony was sold with a fluffy boa, two oversized
earrings, a gold mesh ribbon, a hair clip with false hair, a
hair clip and a comb or brush. There does not seem to have
been accessory differences between the European and American
releases. The mesh ribbons are especially hard to find.
