Flower Ponies

Years after the first flower-mad garden-star Posey went on sale, Hasbro finally decided to go all out on the theme, and create an entire set based around different flowers. Flowers had always been at the periphery of pony set themes, but these four characters were each named after a flower, and had bouquets of flowers as their symbols. Each pony was sold with a flower pick and no ribbon.

The choice of colour scheme for some of these ponies has always been a point of interest for collectors - especially Snowdrop, who is visibly lacking in white.

The set was sold in the UK and in parts of Europe. Carded versions survive in French, German, and Spanish and also probably exist in French/Dutch and Italian. In fact, when the set was first being talked about online, back in the late 1990s, the ponies were only known by their German names, and the German set name, Vergissmeinicht-Ponys (Forget-Me-Not Ponies). For this reason some people still call them German exclusives - but they are not. They were sold across much of Europe and the UK as well.

They were not sold in North America.

They were sold on a peach-orange bordered card, in keeping with the style template for 1991, and Rainbow Rider was under the rainbow. Tulip featured on the front and back of all Flower Pony cards as the set mascot.

Although Tulip and Bluebell were shown in advertising material with wildly curly hair, all four ponies were sold with mid-length straight hair. Despite this, Bluebell at least was always illustrated in the comic with this wild perm.
