Molly and Baby Sundance

As if it wasn't enough having Megan in doll form, this year saw the creation of Megan's petulant but plucky little sister Molly. If you thought it was impossible to create a doll with a more vacant expression than Megan, then Molly exceeded all expectations in that department. Just as blond with big blue eyes, Molly's release coincided with the My Little Pony Movie, in which she played a key role. Her companion, logically, was Baby Sundance, who had a bridle to match the one Megan had for Sundance.

According to the box story, Molly was the best friend of all the baby ponies. Sigh.

Baby Sundance featured the gimmick of 1986, which was Beddy Bye Eyes.

There was projected to be a second release of Molly and Baby Sundance, to be sold in 1987, with Baby Sundance updated to feature a First Tooth. This never got beyond the production stage, however, despite being shown on inserts and in the 1987 commercial for the Satin Slipper Sweet Shoppe.

Molly and Baby Sundance were never sold in the UK, but Molly at least made a cameo appearance with the Dutch My Little Pony club in around 1988. She appears on several comic/paper advertisements promoting buildings and sets from around 1988, and was also featured on the back of a carded release of the First Tooth Baby Ponies, which said that she was available to all club members as a free gift.

There is no mention of Baby Sundance in this release.

Whether Baby Sundance and Molly were sold in any other locations is unclear.
