So Soft Lofty

Lofty was a new character for this So Soft Set in 1985, and continued to be sold throughout 1986. She was sold in a new pose for this year, and came with a sun pick and ribbon, as well as a scented sticker.

Lofty is a mysterious character when it comes to the UK release. She was never sold here in any shape or form, but she does appear in the My Little Pony Factfile, and she did also sometimes appear in pony comic stories. She is one of three ponies sold in the original So Soft Set who did not get a regular release anywhere in the mainstream Hong Kong/Chinese made line (the other two being Paradise and Ribbon). Whether Hasbro considered selling So Soft ponies here, or considered selling a version of Lofty here is unclear - but it does seem that at one point she was in the narrative.

All regular Loftys made in Hong Kong have been deflocked. Under her flocking she is a very vivid shade of yellow.

Lofty's Character

Like Ribbon, Lofty was another little pony introduced and made use of throughout the popular television series and movie of 1985-6 and 1987. Lofty the onscreen character was originally voiced in My Little Pony The Movie by Sue Blu, but later her voice artist was changed. Her character was always fairly indistinct on the cartoon.

Lofty's UK fact file entry states that she had 'a knack for making mischief' and that she liked to take friends on hot air balloon rides 'through the rainbow where exciting surprises await them!'
