The One and Only Ribbon


Ribbon was sold in 1985-6 in the North American So Soft Ponies set. She was sold as part of the first big So Soft release and remained in the set when it was updated to add new characters in 1986-7. Her hair is intentionally straight and silky. She came with a pinkish purple dove brush and white ribbon, as well as a flat scented sticker. She was never sold in any other mainstream format.

Ribbon in the UK.

Although Ribbon never was sold in the UK, it's easy to wonder whether she was once part of the thought process. She appeared on the 1987 club paperwork (in place of Gusty, who was sold here), and is also mentioned in Megan and Sundance's UK story, where "Ribbon the unicorn" alerted Honeycomb to go collect Megan from the human world. She also appeared in the Fact File - although she was not the only pony featured here who did not see a UK release, so this really does not prove anything. Her appearance in the UK Megan and Sundance story featuring a UK pony, however, does raise questions we can't quite answer. Maybe? Maybe not? Who knows!



Ribbon's Character

Ribbon appeared in the animated series, most notably in Return of Tambelon, where she was trying to teach her daughter to wink in and out. She was one of the first unicorns to disappear into Tambelon, sparking the hunt to rescue them from the other ponies.
