So Soft Truly


Truly was sold in 1985-6 in the North American So Soft Ponies set. She was sold as part of the first big So Soft release and remained in the set when it was updated to add new characters in 1986. Her hair is intentionally curly. Perhaps because she was continuously sold over this period, her eyes can vary from sky blue to light aqua and the hearts on her symbol can also be various shades of bright pink.

 She is one of only a handful of ponies to be made in a rearing pose, and she had a special clear plastic stand to accommodate this quirk. Her rear hooves are larger than most ponies (meaning she cannot wear pony shoes) and have holes for the stand pegs. You can see the stand underneath the comb and ribbon on the carded image, below.

A regular version of Truly was sold in some European countries and South Africa, possibly also Australia. She looks almost identical to the So Soft, including pose, but without flocking. There is some discussion about eyeliner differences, but in general it is very easy to confuse a deflocked Truly with a European release pony. If buying, buy with care.



Truly's Character

In the animation, Truly was a Southern Belle, with a slightly ditzy but likeable personality. She had no magic in the animation, as this was generally debarred earth ponies in the TV series. She was involved in the snowy scenes of Baby It's Cold Outside and was excited for the return of the Big Brother Ponies in Somnabula, both episodes in which she played a particular role.
