Shady was introduced in North America as a So Soft Pony
character in 1986, and would go on to be released as a regular
pony in Europe in 1987. Because of her flocking, her body is a
far lighter shade of neon pink, which means that she was
commonly illustrated and animated in a lighter shade as well.
She was sold with a purple sun pick, blue ribbon and flat
scented sticker. Her hair is intentionally curly.
The character ascribed to So Soft Shady in the animated series
contradicted her backcard character in most respects, although
it did mention that sometimes she could lack confidence. The
animated series erased all magic capabilities from earth ponies,
leaving Shady depicted as a negative, cowardly, quivering wreck
most of the time - which for me, having grown up with her
amazing comic
personality, was always a disappointment.
