Nachtlicht (aka Nightlight)

Nachtlicht was one of two completely new characters introduced in the 1988 German Rainbow, or Regenbogen-Ponys set. Because of her very limited release, she is quite difficult to find outside of the countries where she was sold. She is relatively unique because of her dark coloured body.

This set of Rainbow Ponies did not have uniform hair colours, so Nachtlicht had her own unique hair blend. They were sold with shooting star brushes, combs and ribbons, but their brushes did not have rainbow stickers, unlike with earlier releases (although in Germany, Italian-made Rainbow ponies also did not have stickers on their brushes, which may explain this anomaly).

There exist different symbol size variations for Nachtlicht. I only have the small one, pictured above, which I traded for from Austria in the late 1990s or early 2000s. The other version seems to be more common in Germany, although the reason for the variation is unclear. It may be to do with distribution or batch production.
