Baby-Ponys - The Return of Baby Cotton Candy. Again.

In 1988, this set of Baby Ponies was sold in German speaking countries. The set included four new characters, one known character in a different pose, and...Baby Cotton Candy, who was apparently so globally beloved no set was complete without her! In German she is called Baby Karamell. It is likely that this version of Baby Cotton Candy had pat pend removed from her hooves.

The set appeared in a promotional leaflet dated 1987, but the style of their card puts them into 1988. The equivalent English and French booklets for this year are also dated 1987 but feature the 1988 line as well.

Baby Cherries Jubilee's Card
Baby-Ponys card (Baby Kirschblüte)
Germany, 1987

Unsurprisingly given their limited release, cards for this set are not that common, and no examples have been found in any language other than German. They were definitely sold in Germany and Austria, and I am presuming Switzerland as well. Anecdotal evidence from collectors in Norway suggest these ponies may have been sold there in some capacity, in particular Baby Blümchen, although the context of this release is unclear. (Thanks to Katrine for this information).

Because they had no English language release, I am including them here on this page with their proper German names. But all six babies were offspring of recogniseable early adults, and they are often called by their English equivalent names. These are as follows:

Baby Zitrönchen = Baby Lemon Drop
Baby Bienchen = Baby Honeycomb
Baby Hopsi = Baby Hopscotch
Baby Karamell = Baby Cotton Candy
Baby Kirschblüte = Baby Cherries Jubilee
Baby Blümchen = Baby Buttons

Some anomalies include Hopsi instead of Hopser, which was the name that appeared on the adult pony's card in the Italian-made 1986 release, and Baby Blümchen for the offspring of Buttons, as it means "little flower". Blümchen was the name originally used for Posey in Germany.

The babies were sold on card with a baby bottle (white with a coloured top) and a ribbon.
