Speedy in 1987-8

Speedy was sold in both the UK and parts of Europe, but this was one of the rare occasions where the version sold in the UK aligned with the North American release and not with that on the continent.

The continental European release of this set seems to have happened in 1988, rather than 1987, like the UK and North America. The 1988 cards had coloured borders, and a new font on the rainbow, which is easy to spot quickly by checking the tail of the Y. This delay by a year seems to have impacted production of Speedy enough to make her appear in a paler shade. This paler version was not sold in the UK at all, but was available in France as well as German speaking countries.

The accessories sold with Speedy were the same as those sold in the North American and UK releases, albeit she had no sticker.

Speedy's Character

As her name and symbol suggest, Speedy was the kind of pony who sped around from place to place, using her rollerskates as a medium to travel the length and breadth of Ponyland. She enjoyed a good race, and it would probably not be unfair to call her a bit of an adrenaline junkie. According to the fact file (and probably her UK backcard story), Speedy's skates were magical and allowed her to skate up into the sky as well.
