Sleepy Head and Sleep Tight

The newborn twins that came with the Slumber Party Gift Pack were unique among Newborn Twin sets, in that they did not share a symbol. They did have reverse colours, however, and in all other ways resembled the rest of the Newborn Twins for the year.

As with some of the other twin sets, there is confusion about the names of these two. They are definitely called Sleepy Head and Sleep Tight - but which way around is another matter.

On the box for the set, above the section where the twins were located, the text simply mentions "Sleepy Head and Sleep Tight" without designating which pony was which. Finding a set that it is completely factory sealed has been difficult, and it is far from clear whether the order of the names on the box and the way in which the ponies were put in the box are correlated. I have seen two sets that have been removed from box previously - and the twins have been put back in, but not the same way around.

On my original site, I deferred to internet wisdom about the order of these baby ponies' names. But, a more concrete clue can be found on the Canadian mail order insert, which is the only piece of documentation I have managed to find thus far which separates the twins by name.

This flier clearly designates the pink twin to be Sleepy Head and the blue one, Sleep Tight. This is contrary to most online ID sites, but it is the only hard Hasbro evidence that I can find. If correct, it is likely that the ponies originally went into the box pink then blue - not blue then pink.

Both twins were sold in the UK at the end of the My Little Pony line (mid-late 1990s). They were sold separately, rather than as a set of twins, and could be found either in a clear bag with a cardboard label featuring a rainbow (priced around £1.50), or in a clear plastic bag, often inserted inside playset boxes. These playsets were often clearance items from other countries and random extra ponies were most often found inside Kitchens in Spanish language boxes - this does not mean that this was some kind of Spanish variation!

In either case, there was no name on the package, nor any indication what set they belonged to. Although they were not an official part of the UK line, however, they were sold in the UK and can be found here second-hand.

She was one of many ponies that were released into the UK this way post-1994, and was probably included because of the Slumber Party's later Mail Order release in 1989.
