Baby Lickety Split in the United Kingdom.

Baby Lickety Split was sold in the UK in 1986 as part of the second Play and Care set. She was sold with an array of accessories to help her new pony guardian take care of her. She was sold in a light blue box, which featured her and Baby Heart Throb on the front.

The back of the box featured all four baby ponies, and included stories for the whole set. They were illustrated with their accessories. Each story describes an element of each pony's character but, probably because in 1986 the only adult version of any of these characters on sale in the UK was Lickety Split - none of the stories mention parental ponies. This is in contrast to the stories on the US Beddy Bye Eye baby boxes.

Her accessories were the same in the UK and the US, except that the North American releases came with a flat sticker instead of a puffy one. She was sold in France, German speaking countries and Nordic countries in this format - versions sold in Spain were made in Spain.

Baby Lickety Split was a particular popular pony in Hasbro's production manual. Not only was she sold as part of the Beddy Bye Eye Set, she was also sold as a First Tooth Baby Pony, which was released in North America in 1987 and the UK around 1988.

Baby Lickety Split's character

Baby Lickety Split was a main character in My Little Pony, the movie. After a falling out over a dance performance, she ran away from Dream Valley with Spike in tow. She accidentally discovered Morning Glory trapped in a well and helped to rescue her. She was also a key part of the events to follow, as her rescue of Morning Glory and her own unwillingness to step back helps to persuade Rosedust and the Flutter Ponies to save Dream Valley from the smooze. Her key role in the story may explain why she was such a popular toy for Hasbro to produce.

Her UK card story describes her as a silly baby pony who loved playing leapfrog. Once she jumped over Baby Gusty and landed in a bowl of her favourite ice cream. I'm sure she was very happy - but I'm betting whoever it was whose ice cream she landed in was less impressed.
