Big Top and Toppy

Big Top and Toppy were one of three sets of earthling twins to be sold as part of the 1988 set. They were not sold as part of the UK release. They, did however, get released in France and in German speaking countries in 1989. They had reversed colours - Toppy was white with yellow hair and Big Top was yellow with white hair.

Big Top and Toppy Mint in Box
USA, 1988

One odd phenomenon I noted on my boxed twins, above, is that the ribbons are not sealed in the ribbon slot but are on the tails of the ponies. Both ribbons have been tied in bows.

I bought this set of Mint in Box Twins at the end of the 1990s, from an American store that was clearancing old Mint in Package items. They were therefore new from the store stock. There is no evidence that the box has ever been opened, and all of the bubble around the twins is perfectly sealed. Other examples of twins mint in package like this have also been found. At the same time, there exist versions boxed with the ribbon in the ribbon slot. This phenomenon only seems to affect this second release of Newborn Twins.

Big Top & Toppy's Characters

Puddles and Peeks did not appear in the animated media nor did they have a UK profile, so the only clue to their characters is on the backcard story. Their story described them bringing their clown dolls to life and making them dance by wriggling their noses. Does anyone else feel a chill go down their spine imagining that???
