Tickles & Giggles

Tickles and Giggles were one of the sets of identical twins sold in the second release of Newborn Twins. They were sold in various places under different names, which has not helped in figuring out which is which in each place! The American names for this set are Jebber and Jabber, and I have allocated Tickles and Giggles names in the same way, with Tickles being Jebber and Giggles being Jabber. But what Hasbro really intended is hard to know for sure - there is no clue on the box, which features artwork that doesn't show the pony poses.

This twinset had fading pink hair, and it is common to find them faded. While there are some minor body shade batch variations between twinsets, the most common reason for drastic colour deviation is sun damage, as the below example shows very clearly. The pony on the left has her original colouring and no fading damage. The pony on the right has clearly had exposure to sunlight - her hair is faded to white and her body is a more greenish hue. This is absolutely not a variation, it is 100% damage (even though they look so different.) Both ponies shown are Giggles.

Unfaded and Faded Giggles

Tickles and Giggles was one of two twinsets from the second set to have a sandpit, in pink. They were one of three sets from this release to be sold in the UK, and were also available across several European countries in 1988.

Their boxes were different on the back (to accommodate only three sets being sold), but the front seems to have been more or less the same as that in North America, with just the names changed.

Tickles and Giggles's Characters

The personalities of the second release of twins were not as prominent in the comics as the original pairs had been (especially since those original pairs continued to appear in stories). Tickles and Giggles did appear in the comic during 1988, however - in one story with Magic Hat, where they ended up wearing easter bonnets shaped like chicks.

Like the earlier twins, these newborn twins were initially presented as quite dependent on a caregiver, but as time progressed, they began to have adventures unsupervised. In another, later story, they ended up on a magical merry-go-round courtesy of Baby Lucky, who apparently even by 1988 had not learned that his happy-go-lucky magic had BIG consequences.
