Love Melody

Love Melody was one of four earth ponies introduced in this set, and she had one of the year's new poses. She was sold on a pink bordered card in the UK, France and Germany, and a white card in North America. Her English name was the same on all cards, but translated in other countries. She had the shade of pink hair that fades easily, and is often found with her hair bleached to white - sometimes even her heart symbols can fade to white as well (this is not a variation). She features on the front of her UK card (below). She was sold on the same card (albeit translated) in France and Germany.

While most Party Ponies are made in Hong Kong, there do exist some which are made in China. Most of the Chinese made Party Ponies are found in continental Europe, possibly suggesting production continued there later than it did here in the UK. With that said, Hong Kong versions of all these ponies are also not uncommon on the continent.

Love Melody's character

Love Melody often appeared in Valentine issues of the My Little Pony comic, but her character was definitely more complex than simply a token romantic. She was also a singer, who composed music and melodies for special occasions. In one story, I believe she lost her voice, needing the (magical) help of friends to get it back.

Her UK backcard story tied her in with Valentine's Day in particular - which is fitting, given that one of the comic free gifts was a Valentine's Day card featuring her. The story went as follows:

"Love Melody's favourite parties are Valentine's Day Parties, where she's really dressed for the occasion with her beautiful pink love hearts."

Short and sweet, but not very informative.
