Up, Up and Away

Up, Up and Away was one of four earth ponies introduced in this set, and she had one of the year's new poses. She was sold on a pink bordered card in the UK, France and Germany, and a white card in North America. It's an unusual name for a pony, but Hasbro UK decided not to change it, so she was sold under that name here as well. She had fading pink hair, so is sometimes found second hand with her mane and tail in white -this is not a variation.

I don't have a picture of Up Up and Away on the pink UK/German/French card, but pictures from her American and Italian cards compared to those from other ponies suggest her accessories were uniform across her releases, despite different card styles - as shown below.

While most Party Ponies are made in Hong Kong, there do exist some which are made in China. Most of the Chinese made Party Ponies are found in continental Europe, possibly suggesting production continued there later than it did here in the UK. With that said, Hong Kong versions of all these ponies are also not uncommon on the continent.

Up, Up and Away's character

Up, Up and Away's character unsurprisingly related to balloons. In fact, her backstory in North America mentioned her fastening a lot of balloons to a basket and using magic to make it fly (well, her name is Up, Up and Away, right?) In France, her name Montgolfiere (the word for hot air balloon, referencing the Montgolfiere brothers) also suggests a hot air balloon/basket element to her balloonishness, not just basic party balloons. (Eat your heart out Pinkie Pie.)

Her UK card story also gives her another trait - the ability to move at speed, and, apparently, has a fear of missing out! I don't remember this trait in the comic but there are a lot of stories and I may just have missed it. I quite like the idea of her zipping around like a mad thing trying not to miss out! Her UK story is as follows:

"Up, Up and Away moves so quickly that she can visit a dozen parties a day. She is always a welcome party guest – she only has to wiggle her nose and dozens of balloons appear. Sometimes, the balloons are magical . . . and anything can happen."
