Lily in the United Kingdom

Lily was sold officially in 1986 in the UK. She was also sold on a more global scale. She is relatively common second hand (usually without wings). She was re-released in the 1987 set in North America, but did not see a similar re-release here in the UK.

Although the basic pony and accessories were the same across her releases, the UK release also had a round, puffy sticker which seems to be unique to this country. She was sold in a box that featured her, along with Rosedust on the front. Her story/poem was featured on a side flap. The UK was the only country where the box featured a poem rather than a story.

Lily was also used as the poster pony for how to flutter wings on the back of boxes in the first and second year of release.

Although she was clearly a pink pony, and is shown as pink on her box and her sticker, she appeared in the UK fact file with a lavender body tone. She was never sold in this colour scheme, but was occasionally illustrated this way in other merchandise.

Lily's Character

"Flutter Ponies bring good luck,
And fill the air with love,
When you lay your head to sleep,
Lily watches you from above ."

In the UK, flutter ponies were charged with being lucky, and instead of a story, each flutter had a little poem on her box, beginning with the line 'Flutter Ponies bring good luck'. Lily's poem suggests that she watched over her friends/pony guardian as they slept.

The Flutter Ponies did appear in the UK comic and annuals, and in one story Lily was selected by an enchanted bell to help rescue some Baby Sea Ponies who had somehow become caught between years.

The idea of New Year being delayed or not taking place was not an uncommon one in pony stories, suggesting that it was something that had magical properties and did not happen automatically. In this story, Lily broke out into rhyming song on at least one occasion, but it doesn't seem that this was a key part of her character.
