Wing Song in the United Kingdom

Wing Song was sold as one of the new characters in the second set of Flutters in 1987. As was characteristic of the new additions, she had far bolder colours, as well as a new pose introduced that year. She was sold in North America, in the UK and parts of Europe though it is not clear how widely she was distributed across the continent. She was promoted in the 1987 advert for Paradise Estate, when she was oddly sitting in the baby pony crib as though she were an infant. The advert text also reinforces this by saying there is 'even a Nursery for Wing Song' - despite the fact flutter ponies were definitely adults.

There are some disputes about accessories for the second set of Flutter Ponies. For me, the only realistic solution is that there are variations. We know that there are definitely ponies sold boxed with a metallic  ribbon. There are also those with narrow ribbons edged with gold. Some collectors have tried to pigeonhole specific accessories to specific regions, but I do not think it is regional. Rather, I think it may be to do with batch and what other ponies were on release around the same time.

The UK release was the only release to come with a round puffy sticker for this set.

She was still available in France and in German speaking countries at least in 1988. The box art was the same as that seen in the 1987 UK release, only translated. The rainbow was also updated to the new font, suggesting that the release was in 1988 rather than 1987. This release came without a sticker, probably because of the later issue.

Wing Song is sometimes mis-labelled 'Wind Song' on online sources, probably because of the mobile/wind chime type symbol she has - but her official name is definitely WinG Song.

Wing Song's Character

"Flutter Ponies bring good luck,
On every single day,
And when you play with pony friends
Wing Song will watch you play ."

As with all of this set, Wing Song's UK box bore a poem, rather than a story (pictured above). Hopefully her poem indicates a sort of guardian pony angel type of behaviour, rather than sitting glaring at you from behind the frame of her crib...

In the comics, however, Wing Song was Ponyland's very own virtuoso. She would write music on a whim and had the temperament that goes with any creative genius - often not quite on the same levels as her friends. She was never happier than when she had a song in the works, and the other ponies put her talents to good use on many occasions. On one of these, she sang about Paradise Estate, which was a place the Flutter ponies had previously visited. Thanks to magic clouds sent by Magic Star, the flutter ponies were able to 're-find' Paradise Estate.
