Milkweed and Tumbleweed

Milkweed and Tumbleweed were one of two sets of identical twins sold in the North American set, but did not make it to the United Kingdom.
Like Rattles and Tattles, the two ponies have the same colour scheme and symbol, but different poses. The differences are subtle - one slightly walking and one standing still. Although Hasbro did not designate which way around these two went, collector wisdom over a few decades has determined them to be this way around. But honestly, I have also seen them labelled the other way, so...erm..you do you?

They were sold with a pretty pink and purple bassinett, as well as an array of accessories.

The box for the Newborn twins in the North American release was quite different from the box used in the UK for the sets sold there. It featured four twinsets on the front - Sniffles and Snookums and Milkweed and Tumbleweed were on the top flap, whilst Noodles and Doodles and Nibbles and Dibbles were on the bottom front. The whole of the plastic bubble/inlay space where the ponies would have been was surrounded with a lace blanket frill.

The back of the box featured the full set of twins for the year, including some of the accessories. Unlike the UK box, which featured both stories, only one story was featured on the back of the box (shown belongs to Rattles and Tattles).

Milkweed and Tumbleweed's characters

Milkweed and Tumbleweed appeared in the animated series, in The Prince and the Pony and Ice Cream Wars. As a kid in the UK, I grew up with the latter episode, and so although I had no idea what a Milkweed was (I still don't really, LOL), I became very fond of them and was so happy when I learned they were real. Don't tell the others but they are a favourite pair of mine :) They had mischievous infant personalities, which drove the babysitting First Tooth Babies a little crazy. I remember that the missing recipe in the episode was found in the ice cream Milkweed was eating, and she literally spat it out, resolving the dispute.

Their box story also mentions a double rainbow appearing in the sky to herald the arrival of the twins. Not quite as original as being drawn into life, but still cute! This appeared on the stories for all the sets of twins, even those sold in the UK.
