Moonshimmer

The oddly named Moonshimmer was part of the Glittering Pony (or Glittering Sweetheart Sister Pony) set, released in North America in 1990 and the UK and Europe in 1991. The North American release had ponies on cards, but in the UK and in Europe, we continued with Sweetheart Sister Ponies in boxes, as per the previous year.

Moonshimmer was the only pony in the set whose name changed between the North American and UK English language release - she was called Twinkler across the atlantic, which was yet another recycled name. In Germany she was called Mondschimmer, which suggests her translated name in other places (if sold there) was probably likely to be on a similar theme.

The Glittering Pony set all came with glittering star picks. Moonshimmer's was officially a golden orange-yellow colour. They also had floral earrings, just like the previous set, and used the same slender poses.

A version exists of Moonshimmer, predominately found in Germany, with curlier hair (often in a lighter shade) and with lighter pink tinsel.

Moonshimmer's Character

Moonshimmer appeared a few times in the comic, usually helping out in some respect. She could also use her stardust magic in a more direct way, however, such as when she punished some naughty Nettle Gnomes. She was a proactive pony who didn't like to sit back if there was something she could do.

I have actually never seen Moonshimmer's box story, so I am not sure what it says or how it explains her rather anomalous name and symbol situation. I am guessing it relates to shimmering stardust, however, as backcard story themes often appeared in the comic.
