Fizzy in the United Kingdom.

Fizzy was sold in 1986 as part of the first set of Twinkle Eye ponies. She was a popular character in the animated media, and featured on the back of the Movie Star card as well on her own. She was one of two characters re-released in the 1987 set, which was a cut down amalgamation of two sets sold in North America between 1986 and 1987. She was meant to have curly/wavy hair.

While the first release of Twinkle Eye Ponies in France and German Speaking countries also used the above style of card (in translation), the Benelux countries used the American artwork on a card translated into French and Dutch. The accessories were broadly the same as the first release in North America, but mismatched stickers were common. My sister's MOC Fizzy, pictured below, is packaged with Speedy's sticker, indicating that this release came a little later than the original release, at a time when Speedy was already in stores - probably between late 1986 and early 1987.

The UK card for the second release set in 1987 is extremely difficult to find and no known Mint on Card version of Fizzy on this card is known to survive. For this reason it is not known whether she had the same accessories between 1986 and 1987, but, based on surviving German and French carded ponies from 1988, it is likely that she did.

Fizzy is one of the ponies who has been found on a Baby Sea Pony card. She is usually found on Sunshower's card. Her accessories and sticker are as normal.

Fizzy's Character

Fizzy has a bit of a cult following from the animated series, because of her bubbly, happy-go-lucky personality. Her magic was to create bubbles, sometimes ones that she ended up in, and things didn't always turn out exactly as she planned. She was fun-loving, and quirky, and full of humour, with absolutely no malice in her at all. In Mish Mash Melee, she and the logical Wind Whistler swapped personalities and they got to see things from alternative perspectives.

In the UK, Fizzy was clumsy, and sometimes received short shrift for this.  In one story, she and Applejack created such chaos between them that they wound up riding an umbrella down a stream, meeting an odd flying fish and discovering the four new twinkle eye ponies, who Applejack apparently left behind the first time! (#42). Thanks to her bubbly nature, nobody could really stay mad at Fizzy for long - although occasionally her clumsiness got her down.

She did have a special time of the year, though, and a festival that she took great pride in. This was Fizziwhizz night, and it involved her using and sending up fireworks. Although her symbol is soda, her UK association was always with fireworks and she appeared regularly in the comics around November (which is when Guy Fawkes Night occurs in the UK).
