So Soft Bangles

Bangles was sold in the third and final full set of So Soft ponies in 1987. She was released in North America, and also in Italy, although she does not seem to have been sold anywhere else in Europe. She is often compared to Buttons, because of the similarity of the colour scheme.

The name Bangles would be used again much later in the release line, for one of the Hairdo ponies in 1993 - but only in Europe and the UK.

Bangles' Character

Bangles has no media releases in the UK, and the biggest clue to her character lies in her backcard story - which is thankfully less fanciful than some of her fellows! Bangles stumbles on a lost ruby, which she recognises as belonging to Majesty's crown. She hurries (apparently 'flies') to Dream Castle to return it. Majesty is so happy she rewards Bangles with a jewelled bracelet. Bangles feels like royalty when wearing this trinket. From this we can understand that she has a good memory, a sense of responsibility, and treasures the gifts given by others. I think that makes her kind of sweet!

This appearance by Majesty in a US card story is also pretty rare. Dream Castle was no longer on sale in North America in 1987, In 1988, and maybe even late 1987, however, there would be a reissue of Majesty offered via Mail In as part of a set of playset ponies. This may explain why her name suddenly springs up here.
