Twisty Tail (European release)

Twisty Tail was one of three earth ponies made available in the Brush and Grow Pony set in the UK and Europe in around 1989. This version was only ever sold on card. The cards had their own European art on the back, which was unusual for packages in 1989.  The carded releases do not seem to have come with combs, but did come with everything else. The wide ribbons  were folded underneath the brush (thanks to LadyG for this information).

While the cards advertised ponies made in China, the majority of Brush & Grow ponies available in the UK second-hand market are made in Hong Kong. Chinese versions do exist, but most of them are found on the European continent, and may indicate a slightly later release here. I am assuming a Chinese version of Twisty Tail exists, and that she is in this pose, but I have yet to see one for myself.

Unlike the rest of this set, which were the same in the North American and European releases, Twisty Tail was made in a different pose in the UK/European carded release. Both versions were available in the UK because of later imports. This version was not sold in North America.

The carded versions are known to have been sold in the UK, the Benelux (on English cards with import labels), German speaking countries, Spain and France (translated). It is likely they were also sold in Italy, but the method is not known.

Twisty Tail's Character

Twisty Tail's backcard story in the UK is similar to that in the US, although a little more concise, and edited for language spellings such as 'colour'. In it, she and her friends are having a styling session, and Twisty Tail's rainbow rinse is proving a big hit in making their colours stand out. This rainbow rinse also appeared in a comic story. The Brush & Grows were invited to an event, but Twisty Tail's rinse had run out, making her unable to glow up her hair for the occasion. The rinse was apparently gathered from droplets falling from the rainbow on a rainy day, so Pretty Vision invited Chief to come and use his fire hose to simulate rain and help her fill the bottle. (Yet another non-fire-extinguishing fire pony duty).
