Windy Wing Ponies
1989 UK Insert

After the success of the Summer Wing Ponies in the 1988 line,
Hasbro brought out a second release of little butterfly ponies
in 1989 - the Windy Wing Ponies. Although often confused with
one another second hand, the Summer Wings had birds and bugs as
their symbols, whereas the Windy Wings had mostly elemental,
weather or space related symbols. They also tended to have
brighter colours, although this is not necessarily universal.
Versions can be found made in Hong Kong and in China.
Like the Summer Wings, the Windy Wing ponies were sold in the UK
in American style boxes. I have never had one of these from new,
nor do I have any of their packages, so I am not sure if, like
the Summer Wings, an additional stamp mark was put on the bottom
to mention UK distribution, but this seems likely. The boxes
were small, just like the Summer Wing release, but in pink
instead. Like the Summer Wings, they were sold with combs,
although now they were sun picks, rather than flowers, in
keeping with the set theme change. They did not come with
ribbons.

Windy Wing ponies are generally more difficult to find than
their Summer Wing counterparts. This has led to some rumours
they did not see a UK release, but this is not the case. They
appear both on Hasbro's list for 1989, and the insert. With that
said, I have found far more Summer Wings on the UK second hand
market, suggesting they may not have had such a plentiful
release here.
They seem to be found relatively often on the second hand market
in Germany.
