Scrub-A-Dub Tub Playset


As with the Sweet Dreams Crib, this was a playset on a smaller scale, this time themed on 'bath time'. It was a watertight bathtub, in which ponies could legitimately be bathed, although the accessories did not include bubble solution like some earlier playsets did. The set did not come with a pony, and was sold in the UK in both 1989 and (as the catalogue image shows, above), 1990. The bath had a detachable shower rail with rings on which a seahorse-patterned curtain could be hung. It had various small cute bath accessories such as a plastic soap, a star shaped sponge (usually green), a shower cap (yellow), a white duck and a towel.

I don't have a box from the UK release but I believe it was the same as that used in North America. In some European countries, the set seems to have been sold a bit later, and appears in a box with the border style of the 1990s and Mainsail under the rainbow.

Mine is in storage, so I do not currently have a loose image of the actual playset. However, the catalogue image, above, is relatively accurate, at least to the accessories and format of the playset. The Catalogue also lists these.

Although the actual release of this playset came under the American name of "Scrub a Dub Tub" in the UK as well, Hasbro also referred to it as Pony Tub - which is how it was promoted on the insert for 1989.
Scrub a Dub Tub

A special Gift Set release of this playset existed in North America in 1989, with additional adult ponies sold as part of the set. These ponies were usually Sparkle pony Sky Rocket, Merry-Go-Round Pony Sunnybunch (although the box featured Flower Bouquet) and Sweetheart Sister Pony Spring Song. This release of the tub had its own box but this is very hard to find, and is only seen in America. Most releases of the set in America are the same as the UK and have no pony with them.

This additional pony release may have been a way to get rid of excess stock.
