The Apple Delight Loving Family

The Apple Delight Loving Family were sold in the UK in 1989 and 1990, and this release overlapped with their releases in Europe. Both the individual and boxed gift set releases of these ponies were available in the UK, which may explain why some of them are quite common on the second hand market. I believe that both versions were also available in parts of Europe, though I am not sure both releases were universal.

The individually carded ponies were sold on translated cards, and ponies could be made in China or with no country on their hooves. This may be Spain - as they were available in Spain - but "no country" versions were also sold normally in the UK, on cards marked Made in China. Where exactly these were produced is unknown. The card styles  and accessories in different European countries were the same, however, as the below example shows.

Although the gift set included ribbons for all three included family members, Daddy Apple Delight was not sold on card with a ribbon. He lalso had the same comb as Mummy Apple Delight, not the flower brush from the gift set. Carded Loving Family ponies also sometimes came with Mummy Charms in 1989.

The Baby Brother pony was not sold in the North American gift set and was exclusive to the individual UK/European release. His only accessory was a yellow bowtie.

Baby Sister Apple Delight was sold in the gift set as "Baby Apple Delight", but her I Luv You clip was unique to the individual carded release.

Chinese and No Country versions of the parents are equally as common as one another in the UK second hand market, and across Europe.

The Apple Delight Loving Family


Unsurprisingly, the Apple Delight Loving Family had a connection to apples, orchards and in a very loose way, harvest of fruit. In one story, they advocated a poor farmhand go hunting for the mysterious 'Apple of Delight' in order to win his beloved's hand in marriage.

  The backcard story for the family described the parents helping the babies getting apples down from high branches of a tree - by creating a small tree for them with magic.
