The Sweet Celebrations Loving Family

The Sweet Celebrations Loving Family were sold in the UK in 1989 and 1990, and this release overlapped with their releases in Europe. Both the individual and boxed gift set releases of these ponies were available in the UK, which may explain why some of them are quite common on the second hand market. I believe that both versions were also available in parts of Europe, though I am not sure both releases were universal.

The individually carded ponies were sold on English or translated cards, and ponies could be made in China or with no country on their hooves. This may be Spain - as they were available in Spain - but "no country" versions were also sold normally in the UK, on cards marked Made in China. Where exactly these were produced is unknown. The card styles  and accessories in different European countries were the same, however, as the below example shows.

Although the gift set included ribbons for all three included family members, Daddy Sweet Celebrations was not sold on card with a ribbon. He also had the same comb as Mummy Sweet Celebrations, not the flower brush from the gift set. Carded Loving Family ponies also sometimes came with Mummy Charms in 1989.

The Baby Brother pony was sold in the North American gift set and separately on an individual card, where his only accessory was a purple bowtie. The pony pictured below came from a clearance store in 1996, indicating that surplus of this set were still lurking around some years after My Little Pony had ended.

Baby Sister Apple Delight was not sold in the gift set, and was exclusive to the individual carded issue. I don't have a Mint on Card image, but she was a childhood pony for me and she came with a pale pink I LUV YOU barrette as her only accessory.


Chinese and No Country versions of the parents are equally as common as one another in the UK second hand market, and across Europe.

The Sweet Celebrations Loving Family


The Sweet Celebrations Loving Family were unnaturally obsessed with throwing and organising parties. In one story, they threw a June Jubilee party on the 1st of June, just because it was June. In other stories, they were drafted in to throw parties for other events. I am imagining the social strain on the poor babies as they grew up.

The lack of actual names for the babies in this set was also a problem for me as a kid growing up. Baby Sister Sweet Celebrations was also far too long a name for a small child to deal with, especially given I never had the rest of her family. So to me she will always be affectionately known as "Cele."
