(Princess) Star Gleamer

Star Gleamer was one of two earth pony Princess Brush and Grows in the set. She had tricolour hair, blended together with dark pink tinsel in her mane. You can actually see quite nicely from the boxed image above how the hair was rooted and arranged :D

She was sold with a long handled brush, comb, two I Luv You barrettes (agh, that spelling) and a blue ribbon, as well as nail polish and lipstick (in Europe/UK).

She was sold in the UK in a pale white-pink square box, and in North America in a yellow box that was long and narrow in comparison. There are a lot of colour shades of the clips especially, but I had this pony from childhood and she had the same clips and accessories shown in the box above. A better picture of the clips (on my slightly well loved childhood pony) below:

(Be kind to her, she survived a close encounter with a Dance & Prance Pony, me decorating her feet and face, me styling her hair over and over...and probably being abseiled out the window, as that happened a lot in our house...)

Star Gleamer's Character

Star Gleamer was a childhood pony for me, and the story that sticks in my mind most strongly is the tale from comic 114 and adjacent, in which Star Gleamer is having a bad day, gets kidnapped, gets rescued and then helps someone else complete a gem quest. The story is a multi-part deal including her and Princess Skylark. We have absolutely no motive for why the Gloom Goblin decided to kidnap her, nor why he shut her in a tower. Maybe he didn't like her sparkle-sparkle.

Star Gleamer's kidnap gives the comic the chance to play at Rapunzel, with her 'letting down her hair' to allow the mouse, Tiny, to clamber up to reach her. I find this ironic now as an adult, as in North America, there actually was a Rapunzel pony - but we had to approximate with Brush & Grows. ;)

Despite being a captive, Star Gleamer is not really a damsel in distress, and once out of her cell, she happily joins in Kestor's quest to obtain the Apple of Delight, sharing her knowledge of its whereabouts. It seems that Star Gleamer also likes gems!
