Twinkler (Store Release)
Twinkler was the pegasus pony from the Sparkle
Pony release. This store-released version was available in the
UK in 1989, and was sold on a card with a narrow blue border
around the edge, and yellow name/set name bubbles. She was
sold with a comb but no ribbon - although in Spain the release
did have a ribbon. As with the Mail Order version, Twinkler
had tricolour tinsel, but no small version of her symbol on
her cheek.
Twinkler was sold in North America on a
very similar card (no border/pink name bubbles) and with
the same accessory. Some releases of the Sparkle Ponies
came with free pony makeup - an offer not available in the
UK.
Twinkler's Character
The pony comic had far too much fun with the Sparkle Ponies and
odd stories involving them. They appeared in quite a few
different tales, including a multi-part story where one of them
was kidnapped by Wizard Wantall. In this story, Wizard Wantall's
sidekick, Get It, wanted to kidnap Twinkler, because he thought
she was 'terribly pretty', but the Wizard had his eyes on
another.
One of Twinkler's appearances was in a story when she,
Sunspot and Napper were making Christmas decorations and were
discussing 'making a starburst' to go in their display. As
Napper and Twinkler went out to gather supplies, they found a crib in
the forest, with Baby Starburst sleeping inside.
Even more bizarre than this was the fact Twinkler and Napper
decided to hide the baby pony until Christmas and THEN take her
to Lullabye Nursery.
