Songster


Songster was one of the four earth pony Dance & Prance characters released in the Dance & Prance pony set. The set was available in North America in 1989, and then was sold in the UK and Europe in  the 1990 and 1991 catalogues. Although originally promoted as a pegasus in the commercial and American catalogue, Songster was actually sold in an earth pony pose, with her head looking up. This pose was amended from the Powder pose, with the horn removed. The artwork on the box for Songster is a bit ambiguous - it looks like wings may have been removed or covered by the boa/hair.

Songster was sold with a range of dress up dance accessories, from a gold mesh ribbon to a fluffy boa, earrings and a clip with a hair extension. Although she was definitely sold with a shooting star brush in North America, I cannot 100% confirm this for the UK/European release.

Songster's Character

Songster was always depicted as a pegasus in the pony comics, because of the original prototype. She was cast as a singer, who liked to perform and had a microphone she would whip out from time to time. She was noted for her singing voice.
