Sugar Sweet

Sugar Sweet was the unicorn character introduced in the Candy Cane set. She was sold in the UK via both the official release and via the Woolworths import, meaning that she was sold in both bordered and yellow boxes in the UK. The accessories were the same between releases - a sweetie comb, hairclip and ribbon. The pony pictured above is in her American box. You can see the back of the UK box by clicking here.

Sugar Sweet's Character

Sugar Sweet did have a number of comic appearances, often alongside Caramel Crunch. On one occasion, while the two of them were strolling along turning elemental essentials into candy products (Caramel Crunch creating popcorn rain and Sugar Sweet creating candyfloss clouds), they ran into one of the Rainbow Curl ponies, ultimately welcoming them to Ponyland. Sugar Sweet used this tail-swishing magic trick of hers in a few comic stories, including the example pictured below, which shows a proper pink cloud hovering up in the sky. (I wonder if she made the cloud the Cookery Ponies live in...)

Sugar Sweet's backcard story in both the UK release and the North American one included Lemon Treats, although she was only sold in the UK through Woolworths' import, not through Hasbro's official channels.

This is just one of several examples in 1990 where stories from American cards were used on UK cards without amending pony names. This is in spite of other language edits (here, for example, cotton candy has been changed from the US story to candyfloss). There were no changes made to 'hide and go seek' (Hide and Seek) or 'candy scent' (sweet scent), however, so it is possible that the story edits were not very thorough, and only made broad adjustments that they thought were the most necessary.

Sugar Sweet's story suggests both Sugar Sweet and Lemon Treats are capable of flying, despite neither one being a pegasus.
