Sweet Lily


Sweet Lily was one of four earth ponies from the Perfume Puff Pony set, which was released in both North America and in the UK in 1989. In the UK, the release coincided with the sale of the Perfume Puff Palace.

Sweet Lily was sold here in a US-style box, with the same accessories as those available in North America - a comb,  hair clip and ribbon. My pony is not shown wearing her original ribbon. Her hair is intentionally white.

  Like all the Perfume Puff ponies, she had a very fluffy mane and tail, which was soft and scented, like her body.

 

Sweet Lily's Character

Like all of the Perfume Puff Ponies, Sweet Suds lived in the Perfume Puff Palace, and was generally interested in scented, perfumey things. Sweet Lily's symbol was a perfumed sachet, rather than a bottle of perfume, and she had some small bird friends, who sometimes helped her style her hair. In the story of the Apple of Delight, Skylark's larks came to seek help from Sweet Lily's lovebirds, to help unlock Stargleamer's prison. Sweet Lily also gave them some magic perfumed seeds to help them in their quest. These seeds ultimately help to grant the grumpy Gem Goblin's true wish.

My Little Pony Comic, 1989

Perfume Puff Pony hair was always illustrated in this straight lined style, which, for me as a child, having never seen one in person, didn't really make much sense. When I first did see a Perfume Puff Pony, it also took a while to make the connection. It's just a bit too neat and tidy considering that many Perfume Puffs end up on the second hand market with decided more vertical styling.
