So Soft Skippety-Doo

Skippety-Doo was sold as part of the additional character range tacked on to the original release of So Soft Ponies. We can say she is part of set 2, or Set 1.5, as she was released alongside existing So Soft characters from the first set. She was never sold in the UK in any form. She was not reissued in the final 1987 So Soft set. Her hair is intentionally curly. Like the other ponies in the rearing pose, she was sold with a clear plastic stand, and her back hooves were larger and had holes for the stand to be inserted into.

We have to talk about the name, here, don't we? I can't help but think of "zip-a-dee-doo-dah" when I see her name. If that wasn't bad enough, her symbol genuinely looks like a string of sausages. When she's flocked, it's harder to tell, but deflocked, it looks a lot more shapeless and a lot less like a skipping rope. If you find a pony and you think she has sausages for a symbol...it's probably Skippety-Doo.

Interestingly, a pony that appears to be loosely based on Skippety-Doo was sold in Europe and the UK in 1991. Her name was Playtime, and she had a greenish aqua body, pink hair, and a skipping rope symbol. Her symbol did look more accurate. This may have been a massive coincidence, but...I don't really believe in those.

Skippety-Doo's Character

I didn't have high hopes for Skippety-Doo's story, based on her name and her sausages symbol, but even so. The only media we have relating to Skippety Doo involves her taking part in a skipping rope contest, and somehow ending up on a cloud, from which she grabbed some sunbeams, threw them down to the ground and turned them into parasols. I swear, between them this set have world destruction on their mind.
