So Soft Twist

Twist was sold as part of the additional character range tacked on to the original release of So Soft Ponies. We can say she is part of set 2, or Set 1.5, as she was released alongside existing So Soft characters from the first set. She was never sold in the UK in any form. Her hair was intentionally straight. The streak in her hair is 99% likely to be fading pink (my Mint on Card one looks like she has a pale pink streak) although some sources document it as white.

Twist was not reissued in the final 1987 So Soft set.

Twist's Character

Twist's backcard story features her learning to ice skate with lessons from a mysterious character called "Skates".  Though we cannot be sure simply from her story that Skates was intended to be a pony, the lack of other description suggests that a child reading the text would know who was being referenced. It is also not uncommon for ponies to feature in other pony backcard stories. The most likely candidate for 'Skates' is 'Speedy', a Twinkle Eye pony released around the same time as Twist in North America. Although Speedy has skates for a symbol, they are rollerskates, not ice skates. It is possible, however, that Hasbro considered this to be an extension of her skills.
